KATIE ASMUS, MA

Katie Asmus, MA, LPC, is a Body-Centered Psychotherapist and Educator. With 17 years experience working in the wilderness, and 12 years as a clinician working with a variety of populations, Katie has spent a great deal of her career bridging the two in the field of Wilderness Therapy. After realizing the prevalence of trauma in our society, Katie focused her graduate studies and thesis work on body-centered modalities for working with trauma
in the wilderness, bringing this work to the fields of Adventure Education and Wilderness Therapy. She has presented nationally for 7 years on this topic, and has published a journal article entitled, "Emotional Risk Management: Identifying and Working with Emotional Trauma in the Wilderness Setting through Body Centered Interventions". Katie was also part of the creation and facilitation of the first Clinical First Responder Course offered at Naropa University in 2004.

Katie has worked with children, adolescents, adults, individuals, families, and groups in a variety of contexts. A life path of service has taken her on a journey through work with underserved rural populations, departments of corrections, community mental health centers, domestic violence shelters, rape crisis programs, homeless shelters, wilderness programs, institutions of higher learning, and private psychotherapy practice.

Currently, Katie has a private psychotherapy practice in Boulder, CO where she works with clients in the office as well as in the wilderness. She offers intensive wilderness therapy opportunities from 1-7 days for individuals, couples and families. In addition, she is the Assistant Director of the Masters of Arts Wilderness Therapy program at Naropa University, and Mentors MA students at Prescott College earning degrees in Adventure Based Psychotherapy and Adventure Education. Additionally, Katie is trained in EMDR, Body-Mind Psychotherapy, Right Use of Power, Matrixworks Group Leadership, and Hypnotherapy.

Katie is constantly in awe of the strength of the human spirit and the inherent wisdom of our body-minds. Katie is passionate about making the world a better place, and supporting individuals to open themselves to greater possibilities. Katie's presentation style is dynamic, engaging, practical, and inevitably involves a bit of humor and fun!
